Discover the 10 Skin Care Secrets to Give You Smooth-looking & Clear Skin
Maintaining a proper daily skin care routine is vital for having an acne free, clear, and smooth-looking skin.
Your basic acne skin care regimen should include cleansing of the skin, applying a toner, and finishing with a moisturizer (use moisturizer with sunscreen in the day-time and moisturizer by itself at night-time).
You should cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser at least twice a day to remove the oil, dead skin cells, dry skin - substances that can clog the pores. Clogged pores is the primary reason for bacteria attack!
It is imperative for the pores of your skin to remain bacteria free. The presence of bacteria is something which contributes substantially to the growth of pimples and acne. If you have overall cleanliness of the skin, you can lessen the chance of pimples and acne.
Follow these 10 essential acne skin care tips below to maintain clear & beautiful skin and to avoid pimples and acne breakouts:Tip #1 - Use filtered water for washing and showering
Too much exposure to chemicals is bad for skin as well as hair. The municipal treated water can certainly kill bacteria and other organisms, but it does so with a chlorine compound.
The problem is that this chlorine compound, which kills bacteria, can be harmful to your hair and skin. Chlorine causes dry skin, which trigger the skin to produce more oil, making acne worse. Chlorine also causes dry hair, itching, flaking, hair loss, rashes, & premature aging.
A filtered shower can effectively filter out up to 99% of the chlorine and other harmful substances and contaminants such as lead, iron, chloramines while balancing the PH.

Tip #2 - Avoid strong or harsh soaps/cleansers
Strong soaps can dry your skin and strip off natural lipids. Choose cleansers that are gentle, soap-free, contains planted based cleaning agents, PH-balanced, and mild.
Tip #3 - Use a high quality skin care products that is appropriate for your skin type
Most people either have dry skin, combination skin, or oily skin. People with oily and combination skin is usually more prone to acne. You should use skin care products that are specific to your skin type. As importantly is the quality of the skin care products.
Your face is very delicate. As such, make sure you use a high quality skin care line that does not contain too much chemicals, fragrances, or irritants.
A popular line of skin care products I know of is Mario Skin Care Products.
Mario's high quality skin care products are favorite among the stars and their products are especially great for acne skin.
Tip #4 -If you have acne-prone skin, look for cleansing products that contain salicylic acid
Salicylic Acid is a naturally occurring organic acid and a gentle, effective exfoliator.
It is very effective for acne and oily skin and helps to unclog pores by removing dead skin cells, loosen and remove blackheads and whiteheads, and prevent future outbreaks. Products should contain 1-2% concentration of salicylic acid in order for it to be effective.
For sensitive skin types, a 1% concentration would be suitable and for stubborn acne, 2% concentration is recommended. Again, I would recommend the cleansing products from Marios Badescu, which also contains salicylic acid.
Note that Salicylic Acid also makes skin sensitive to the sun. Sunscreen should therefore be used while applying Salicylic Acid. Sunscreen also guard your skin from harmful rays of the sun and helps slow down aging of the skin.
Tip #5 -Use a toner on your face after cleansing
Toners remove traces of make-ups, dirt, oil, dead skin cells that you may have missed during cleansing.
Toning your skin also restores skin pH back to it's normal range and it closes the pores to your skin to prevent dust and ther air borne particles from settling in your pores.
It should make your face feel smooth and refreshed. Astringents and toners with glycolic or alpha hydroxy acids work the best for toning the face. These acids actually can reduce the pore size, and help avoid ingrown hairs. They are aggressive and have quick results.
Tip #6 - Finish off with a multi-tasking moisturizer
Moisturizing is a necessity to replenish lost natural oils and keep your skin moist and supple. Moisturizing is especially important if you have acne and oily skin. If your skin is dry, your body tend to produce excessive oil, increasing the chance of clogging the pores. This is what you must try to avoid!
Again, the product that uses natural ingredients and with the least amount of chemical additives is the best.
A good moisturizing cream contains essential antioxidants and vitamins to nourish your skin, keep it supple, prevent skin dryness, reduce appearance of wrinkles, and give your skin a glowing look.
In the Day time, use a natural based moisturizer that contains SPF15 sun protection. Even if you stay indoor, the UV rays from artificial light can cause damage to the skin.
A good daytime moisturizer to use is the Juicy Beauty Green Apple SPF 15 moisturizer. This light natural based moisturizer doesn't clog pores or cause acne outbreaks and contains fantastic ingredients such as Vitamin C, Green Tea Extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and non irritating sunblock ingredient, Titanium Dioxide. I really like the multi-tasking moisturizer!

Tip #7 -Remember to put on sunscreen lotion (min SPF30)!!!
If you don't want your skin to look like prunes, then put on those sunscreen lotion! Long term exposure to UV radiation leads to harmful effects such as sunburn, skin cancer, and acceleration of skin aging process.
Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for you to have adequate protection against the sun every day.
If you have acne and oily skin, you should avoid sunscreen products that are greasy, oily, and contain fragrances that can irritate the skin and clog the pores.

Tip #8 -Why You Must Do Exfoliation
Exfoliation is an essential part of skin care routine if you want to prevent acne and have glowing, youthful looking skin.
First, exfoliating helps to get rid of the dead skin cells and oils that can clog the pores. When pores are clogged with dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, you get skin problems such as black heads, white heads, and acne.
Furthermore, exfoliating helps to reveal the newer, smoother skin cells, giving you that radiant look.
One of the best skin care products to use for gentle exfoliation and cleansing is the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing sytem.
This marvelous skin cleansing system, based on a brush technology that is similar to the Sonic care toothbrush, thoroughly cleanses and massages your skin to help you get rid of blackheads, prevent pimples, shrink appearance of pore size, and gives you clear and glowing skin.
With manual cleansing, dirt, makeups, and oil are not effectively removed, and end up trapped in the pores. The clogged pores then attract acne bacteria, which eventually leads to pimples and acne outbreaks.
The Clarisonic is very effective at gently cleansing and exfoliating the skin, getting rid of dead skin cells and preventing your pores from being clogged. Additionally, it prepares your skin to better absorb the nourishing vitamins and antioxidants from skin care products.
It is one of Oprah's as well as mine favorite skin care products!

Note 1: Depending on the how sensitive your skin is and the type of exfolitating method you use, you should adjust to the frequency of exfoliating accordingly. If you are NOT using Clarisonic, you should exfoliate no more than twice a week as over-exfoliating may cause skin sensitivity. In general, if you have oily skin, you should exfoliate more often than combo, normal, or dry skin.
Note 2: If you have active acne skin, you should not use aggressive exfoliating method. Doing so would only spread bacteria around your face! Instead, you should use the Clarisonic with the delicate brush type, which is designed specifically for acne skin.
Tip #9 - Steam your face/body regularly
If you have membership to a gym, you should definitely use the sauna. Steaming is a great way to deep clean the pores and remove impurities from the skin. You should do steaming at least 2 times a week to prevent blackheads and acne.
One of the best methods of steaming your face is to use the Conair Facial SaunaThe Conair Facial Sauna really works to give your clear skin and prevent blackheads. It gets lots of high praises on Amazon.com from people who have used it. You can order it directly from Amazon.com.

If you have oily and acne-prone skin, doing a mask is essential. The masks help to remove impurities, oils, and dead skin cells that clog the pores.
You can make mask at home by using items in the kitchens such as oatmeal and honey or you can buy clay masks at salon or your local drug stores. It is better to make your homemade mask though as they are cheaper and free of chemicals. You can search the web for many homemade mask recipes.
